High school rowers from 66 high schools in four states will compete in the The Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association (PSRA) annual "City" Championships on Sunday, May 2 on the Schuylkill River. The 510 boats competing in the one-day event will hold nearly 3,000 boys and girls from approximately 60 different high schools in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and New York.
Racing begins at 8 am with qualifying time trials and moves through heats in the afternoon and grand finals beginning at about 2 p.m. All racing should conclude by 5:30 p.m.
The PSRA sponsors the Manny Flick-Horvat racing series, which includes five regattas, beginning in mid-March and running through April. It also holds the Boys Catholic League Championships and the Girls InterAc Championships on April 25 and the Dr. Robert White Regatta for freshmen and novices on May 9.
The City Championship regatta also serves as a qualifier for the Scholastic Rowing Association of American Championships, which will be in held in Saratoga, NY May 28 and 29 and the U.S. Rowing Youth Championships that are held in Cincinnati, Ohio in June.
